Long-serving Scout leaders to retire

06/04/2009

A Beverley Scout group is looking for new leaders so two dedicated volunteers can finally retire.

Harry Oglesby has been a leader with 1st Beverley Scouts for 42 years, while Bridget Reason has been with the group for 32 years.

Now, the duo want to hand over the reigns to new leaders.

Jason Gillyon will continue as a scout leader, but needs two extra recruits.

Mrs Reason said: "We are getting too old for this. I think it's time we gave it up.

"It's a very rewarding job and the children get a lot out of it."

"We teach them general scouting activities such as knots, mapping and cooking, but we also take them out to do activities such as abseiling, camping, hiking, cycling and canoeing."

The scout sessions are held every Tuesday at St Nicholas Church Hall in Holme Church Lane, Beverley, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Leaders look after 20 scouts aged 10 to 15.
